Disaster Management from the Air and Space

Natural disaster may affect a large area, causing loss of life or damage to properties. During its aftermath, relief efforts may be denied due to inaccessibility, which can potentially worsen the already devastating situation. In this presentation, let us examine the use of space-based services for disaster management and the role of air transportation in disaster relief.

About Winston Chiun

Winston started his career in the Republic of Singapore Air Force in 1991 after he received the Overseas Training Award to study at the United States Air Force Academy. After graduation, he continued his pilot training and became an operational fighter pilot. He served in one of the F5 operational squadrons from 1998 to 2014 and went on to assume several staff and management positions in the HQ RSAF, where he helped to drive several doctrinal and operational developments. Winston also served as the Senior National Representative of Singapore at the US Central Command in Tampa, Florida in 2015. After serving 28 years in the RSAF, Winston retired in Sep 2019. Winston joined Airbus Singapore Pte Ltd in Jul 2021 and assumed the position as the Head of Singapore and Brunei for Airbus Defence and Space.
