Climate Change as a Threat Multiplier for Southeast Asia

Prof. Jeff Obbard, Head of the Climate Impacts Branch at the Centre for Climate Research Singapore, will outline the key findings of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change AR6 reports (2021-2022) with special focus on Southeast Asia. The risk of climate change as a threat multiplier to human society and natural ecosystems will be highlighted in the context of the remaining carbon emission budget.

About Professor Jeff Obbard

Prof. Jeff Obbard is Head of the Climate Impacts Branch at the Centre for Climate Research Singapore, and a Visiting Professor to the School of Water, Energy & Environment at Cranfield University in the UK. Prior to this, Jeff was a Professor & Director at the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS), where he also held a joint appointment as the Principal Scientist of Bioenergy with the Agency for Science Technology & Research (A*STAR). Whilst at NUS, Jeff led a team that received the United Nations Mondialogo Engineering Award for its work on sustainable development in Southeast Asia. He has served as the Vice President for Science & Technology for a Royal Dutch Shell Petroleum joint-venture project in Hawaii, USA on renewable biofuels & carbon capture. Jeff has also worked in the UK & Hong Kong as a private-sector environmental consultant.
